High Key lighting High key lighting is the complete opposite of the low key lighting film technique, it is not commonly used in film noir and thriller genre movies, but in comedies and sitcoms, due to the technique distributing an upbeat mood, which is not the kind of mood to be associated with a thriller and horror film, this is why this technique is rarely used in these genres. The high key lighting film technique usually ensures that the focus in the scene is free from shadows (which again highlights the contrast between the low key lighting technique). There are somewhat some advantages to the use of high key lighting, but the distinctive one is that the technique does not need adjustment to each scene of a film thus meaning that the production process would undoubtedly be a lot quicker.
